Elīna Garanča's anniversary programme
For 15 years Elīna Garanča has been giving her acclaimed summer concert "Klassik unter Sternen" in Göttweig, and 10 years ago "Klassik in den Alpen" was launched in Kitzbühel. Reason enough for the mezzo-soprano to include highlights from past concerts in her programme this time, as well as arias she has never sung before. Among these personal premieres will be "Vissi d'arte" from "Tosca", one of Giacomo Puccini's most challenging and famous arias. Elīna Garanča is particularly pleased to include this, in which the opera's title character sings a heartfelt monologue in the midst of Scarpia's threat, in the programme for the first time.
So Elīna Garanča celebrates the anniversaries with numerous innovations and affectionate retrospectives that bring a reunion with particularly acclaimed arias and duets from the concert history of "Klassik unter Sternen" and "Klassik in den Alpen".
For the special occasion, Karel Mark Chichon, who will once again act as musical director, has also put together another medley. Under the title "Around the World" he combines popular songs from all over the world, including "My Way" and "New York, New York", both of which became evergreens mainly through Frank Sinatra. In addition, there are Austrian favourites such as "Meine Lippen, sie küssen so heiß" from "Giuditta" as well as the Vilja song from "Die lustige Witwe", both ear-pleasers from the operettas of Franz Lehár. All these parts of the medley will also be sung by Elīna Garanča for the first time in Göttweig and Kitzbühel.
